The Big Picture

“Sorry, I don’t see it,” Hank said.

“Oh come on,” Marilyn said. “Look again. Look harder.”

“I’m looking as hard as I can,” Hank responded, his eyes squinting as he stared at the rocky mountainside dark against the setting sun. “I just don’t see it.”

Marilyn was exasperated. “What do you see?” She asked.

“I can’t tell,” Hank answered. “It’s too far away. It’s either a pile of rocks or a tree growing out of a crack. Or maybe it’s someone standing on the summit.”

Marilyn looked toward the huge rocky cliff. “What exactly are you looking at?”

Hank looked at Marilyn. He was confused. “I’m looking at what you asked me to look at,” he responded. He pointed to the outcropping at the top of the mountain. “That thing that is sticking up from the top. You said it looks like a young girl, but I just don’t see it.”

“No!” Marilyn said. “I said that it looks like the silhouette of a young girl’s face has been carved into the side of the mountain.  Look harder. Don’t you see it?”

“Oh yeah!” Hank exclaimed. “She’s sitting down at the top of the mountain and her long hair is blowing in the wind.”

“You know what you’re problem is, Hank?” Marilyn said, shaking her head back and forth. “You can never see the big picture.”

Damn it, Hank. Are you looking? Oh, never mind! I’ll take a pic with my phone and outline it on word later.

Yeah, Marilyn should have thought about that. Maybe next time.

I bet you Hank is also, a pain in the ass, when it comes to seeing the shapes in cloud formations too.

“What does that cloud look like to you, Hank?” Marilyn asked.

“Ha, that’s an easy one,” he answered. “It’s a cloud!”

Now I see it, but it looks more like the Egyptian sphinx than the face of a young girl.

Eye of the beholder. It’s a young girl’ profile to me. BTW, your comments are going directly to my spam file. Not sure why that is.

Hey, Sensei check your spam folder. Chances are Jim’s comment is lying there. Akismet flagged his comment on my site as a spam…

I checked and, yes, two of Jim’s comments were in my spam folder. WTF?

Has Jim posted today? I don’t see anything from him in my reader.

I wonder if it has anything to do with what he did yesterday, which was to change his post categories to tags. He said he did that to 240+ categories. Maybe it caught the eye of someone at WordPress who thought it looked “suspicious.”

Nah, adding tags has nothing to do with Akismet, Jim had to go to school. Told me in the mail.. Someone must have flagged his comment.. Stupid..

I didn’t notice this mountain as a face either until I read some of the stories inspired by it. But now I see it. I did think there was someone sitting on top.

The profile of the young girl (at least that’s what it looked like to me) was the first thing I noticed. As to what was on top, I couldn’t tell if it was a rock pile, a tree, or a person. Interesting how we each can look at the exact same image and yet see it so differently.
