One Continuous Loop

IMG_2360

Ever since I retired late last year, I feel as if my life is just one continuous loop. I wake up each morning and have to think about what day it is. Is it Monday? Thursday? Saturday? Does it matter? The days are indistinguishable.

I think I need a hobby. An avocation. Something to break the loop of routine. Before I go absolutely loopy.

This post was written for today’s one word daily prompt.

  1. Retirement is an interesting time, isn’t it. Gone is the routine of the work day and in its place is this eternal holiday….I am in my 4th year of retirement and I have to say i do enjoy being away from the rigours of the workplace. I like that the days are mine, I can write if I want, I can watch TV, indulge myself in TV drama on DVD, go out and work in my garden, visit gkids and sit with them. Though I do have to agree with you about remembering what day of the week it is…..but for me its been a good time…..I’ve even done renovations on my house….which means I can still surprise myself at times…have a good day and don’t go too loopy.

    1. I may have exaggerated a bit, for purposes of the prompt, about how mundane my life in retirement is. I have been able to keep myself somewhat occupied in my new-found leisure. I do some puttering around the house, catch up on the news on TV, and find time to read, write, and blog. And my wife and I have even taken a few road trips to places on our respective bucket lists. I admit, though, I’m still getting used to not having a full schedule of calls, meetings, and deliverables that my job thrust upon me. Maybe after a few years I will be more adjusted to a life of leisure that retirement offers.

      1. Yes I think you have to grow into it..I remember reading the story of a guy who was a famous footballer and upon retirement found himself lost in that his identity disappeared and he came to the excellent conclusion that its best to retire to something rather than from something…I’m glad its been a good transition for me.
